Guest post: Progressivism - The Mentality of "More"

Here is a guest column submitted by my friend Jeff Semon, who ran for Congress last year in Massachusetts' Fifth District. Jeff is the Director of Communications for the Massachusetts Federation of Young Republicans, and you can follow him on Twitter at @JeffSemonMA.

NBC misses half the story in long-winded attempt to pin blame for shutdown on GOP

Yeah, yeah, keep saying there's no liberal media bias.

Explain this little gem from NBC News today about who has the power to end the government shutdown:

L.A. Times stoops to new levels to find racism in Obamacare opposition

The L.A. Times is finding hidden racism in a conservative position? Must be a day ending in "Y."

In an op-ed published on Sunday titled "Obamacare: New fight, old tactics," author Nelson Lichtenstein explicitly states that "[o]pponents of the healthcare law are following in the footsteps of Southern segregationists half a century ago."

Arizona Under Fire: What you need to know about the Sheriff Joe Recall Effort

[Editor's note: Hey, look, it's a guest post! I've been a busy bee lately and haven't had as much time as I'd like to blog about all the intriguing things happening, so I've invited a few friends to do a little guest blogging here from time to time. So here's Amy Miller...enjoy! Also don't forget to follow my random mumblings on Twitter.]

I don't normally stick my nose into local or district races, mostly because it conflicts with my philosophy of letting the people choose their own. damn. representatives. That being said, I do believe that the people have a right to know who they're signing petitions against and voting for--especially when the Big Progressive Steamroller of Doom© is calling the shots.

Ferris Bueller, You're a Jerk

Jerk.
There's liberal Hollywood bias, and then there's lunacy like this...

I was flipping through the channels late last night and happened to catch The Late Show with David Letterman, just as Letterman was introducing a segment where he has an actor pretend to be Mitt Romney, under the guise of simulating how an interview with Romney might go, if the Governor were to come on Letterman's show.

Jon Lovitz, Tax Expert? [VIDEO]

In an appearance on Piers Morgan's CNN show last night, comedian Jon Lovitz managed to expose the fallacy of the Democrats' economic policies in less than ten minutes.

In a series of rapid-fire comments, he went through his frustrations with President Obama's class warfare rhetoric, explained why capital gains are taxed at a different rate, smacked down the idea that raising taxes on the rich would solve all our problems, refused to give in to Morgan's repeated attempts to blame Wall Street for the economy, and blew apart the idea of the "1%" versus the "99%" that the Occupy movement promotes.

"War on Women?" Ha! Here on the right, we're having a grand old time.

One of the Left's favorite little fear-mongering games is to call conservatives "anti-woman," and accuse the right of attempting to "control women's bodies." Unfortunately for Obama's reelection hopes, the ladies just aren't buying it:

Two videos, one voice: #IAmAndrewBreitbart

In case you missed it, Andrew Breitbart's websites relaunched last night with a fantastic, updated layout and a renewed commitment to do the job that the media failed to do in 2008: vet the record of Barack Obama.

Take some time today and wander around Breitbart.com - there's some incredible content posted there during just the last 24 hours (you will definitely want to check out Andrew's last article: The Vetting, Part I: Barack's Love Song to Alinsky).

#OccupyDenver vs. #BlogCon11: Now With Riot Police!

The Occupy Denver gang is at it again today. If you missed my post yesterday, I posted a lot of great photos, videos, and links about the defective hippies and how they wilted under our superior logic and vicious sarcasm.

I do want to take a moment and say a very loud and grateful "thank you" to the Denver Police Department, who have done an excellent job keeping us safe at our conference. Contrast that with the inexcusable inaction by the District of Columbia Police during Americans for Prosperity's Defending the Dream Summit last week - the AFP staffers called 911 several times when the Occupy DC protesters were literally trying to storm the convention center. The Denver PD have been absolutely wonderful and their presence at the hotel has been very reassuring.

Unfortunately, it seems that Occupy Denver has gone from relatively harmless silliness like electing a dog named Shelby as their leader to following the trend of Occupy DC and other Occupy groups that have turned violent.

Conservative vs. Liberal Ideology on Display in DC

I visited Washington DC this week for Americans for Prosperity Foundation's Defending the American Dream Summit. This week's events were an amazing contrast in conservative versus liberal activist strategies:

Aggressively Stupid: WaPo Attacks on Marco Rubio

Rubio: Proud of his family's history
The Washington Post published a ridiculous hit piece on Marco Rubio yesterday, claiming that "documents show" that Rubio had "embellished the facts" about his family's history, specifically how they came to America from Cuba.

Because Rubio's family emigrated to America from Cuba in 1956, and Fidel Castro did not officially take power until 1959, writer Manuel Roig-Franzia claims that Rubio should not be able to say he is part of the Cuban exile community, and accuses Rubio of exaggerating his family's history for political gain.

I have decided I will not call this article journalistic malpractice, because that would imply that what Roig-Franzia published yesterday was journalism, instead of an egregious attempt at character assassination. Roig-Franzia's belligerent distortions of history makes him a prime candidate to create the next campaign video for Alan Grayson (of "Taliban Dan" fame).

Sean Penn: The Tea Party just wants to get the black man out of the White House

I'm not sure what is making Sean Penn so cranky. Did the Castro brothers forget to send him a birthday card? Well, since he couldn't hang out with his favorite murderous Cuban communists, he went on Piers Morgan's CNN show instead:

Heck yeah! I want a Mercedes too!

A funny picture from the #OccupyWallStreet protests:
Moonbattery | Too Dumb to Draw a Peace Sign
Other than those supported by the Tea Party, pretty much any cause you can imagine has been picked up by the anti-Tea Party primarily infesting Lower Manhattan. Here we see a young revolutionary protesting in favor of Mercedes-Benz:

Awesome. I'd like a Mercedes. Specifically, this one would be nice. [oooh...shiny...]

Hmmm. Maybe I've misinterpreted what this entire protest is about? ;)

Keith Olbermann calls me "improbable"...huh?!

Just when I think liberal media bias has reached the apex of insanity, I find something like this...

Keith Olbermann, who was too ridiculous for even MSNBC to tolerate, recently landed at Al Gore's internet television venture "Current TV." As expected, the move to an online audience hasn't toned down Olby's foaming-at-the-mouth liberal ranting.

This weekend, I got a tip on Twitter (thank you, @aipolitics) that Olbermann had mentioned me last week as part of his tiresome segment naming various people conservatives as "The Worst Person in the World." Unlike Olbermann, I know how to use Google (more on that in a minute), and easily found the video (relevant section starts at about the two-minute mark):

Morning Coffee Reading for June 20, 2011

Here's your morning coffee reading for today:
  • Tim Pawlenty spoke at the Right Online conference last weekend, and knocked their socks off. Don't write him off yet, folks.
RedState | Erick Erickson | Tim Pawlenty impresses Right Online
  • Looks like President Obama's quick visit to Puerto Rico may have been a good fundraising trip, but has the potential to become a public relations nightmare. Apparently spending only four hours on the island territory "unleashed a growing political furor."
Salon | Obama's Puerto Rico visit spurs anger, discontent

  • Here's a heartwarming story about a charity, American Veterans Empowerment Team (AVET), which sends care packages to troops overseas and pampers them when they visit home. This Fox Orlando video shows one service member getting picked up in a limo at the airport.
  • Great blog post by @ChrisOfRights with a more accurate perspective on the Robin Hood story:
