Jason Chaffetz: Rimshots, Romney, & Doing What's Right

After last Thursday's CNN debate in Jacksonville, I caught up with Jason Chaffetz, Republican Congressman from Utah's 3rd District, in the spin room. Here's a video of the interview:

Representative Chaffetz, as you can see, was in jovial spirits and we had a good laugh about his moment in the spotlight during the President's State of the Union speech last week. Here's the infamous "rimshot," in case you missed it:

We also discussed his endorsement of Governor Romney for president. Chaffetz has been one of Romney's most enthusiastic supporters, traveling around the early primary states with him. Chaffetz mentioned to me that Romney's work turning around the Olympic games in Salt Lake City was how he first caught his attention.

At the end of the interview, I asked Chaffetz about the progress of the Fast and Furious investigations. One of our local Congressional representatives, Sandy Adams, has subjected Attorney General Eric Holder to some especially tough questions, and Chaffetz gave him a pretty thorough grilling last month:

Chaffetz had some high words of praise for Representative Adams, and I really enjoyed meeting him. He clearly has a deep knowledge of the issues but doesn't take himself too seriously (ba-dum-ching!). That's a good mix for an elected official.
