At the opening lunch for the Texas Public Policy Foundation's annual Policy Orientation, the speech by State Representative Scott Turner (@ScottTurnerTX on Twitter) knocked it out of the park.

Today, Texas Senator Ted Cruz introduced legislation, co-sponsored by Senators Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Jim Risch (R-ID), Mike Lee (R-UT), Rand Paul (R-KY), Roy Blunt (R-MO), John Barrasso (R-WY), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Paul Isakson (R-GA), and Dean Heller (R-NV), to fully defund Obamacare. Weatherford raises national profile as distance grows between Gov. Scott and conservative grassroots
After a number of articles late last year describing Florida Speaker of the House Will Weatherford as a "rising star" who was following in Marco Rubio's footsteps, he officially took the reins as one of Florida's youngest Speakers with the beginning of the 2013 legislative session and has embarked on an ambitious agenda, including campaign finance and education reform.
This week included two important moments for Weatherford as he continues to raise his national profile.

"Hope Is Not a Strategy" - Excerpts from Romney's Foreign Policy Speech
Tomorrow, Mitt Romney will deliver a foreign policy address at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia.
The Romney campaign has released excerpts, as prepared for delivery, from the speech, and I am glad to see Romney taking a tough stance in support of a strong American foreign policy, and doesn't shy away from criticizing the current administration's approach.
In an especially powerful section, Romney mentions that he and President Obama both share the hope of "a safer, freer, and a more prosperous Middle East allied with the United States," but then concludes, "[b]ut hope is not a strategy." Well said, Governor.
Read the speech below:

My former governor (and the first one for whom I could vote), Jeb Bush, entered the stage at the Republican National Convention to a standing ovation and thunderous applause.
Here are Bush's remarks, along with a teacher and school choice advocate who joined him on stage:

The Republican National Convention concludes tonight with speeches from Florida Senate candidate Connie Mack, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, a surprise guest (widely rumored to be Clint Eastwood), and the official acceptance speech from our nominee for President, Mitt Romney.
Here are excerpts from Romney's speech that he will give tonight:

This is not a recap of the State of The Union
So, last night we went through the annual circus known as the State of the Union (SOTU) address. Meh. I readily admit that I am viewing these speeches through a very partisan lens, but wow, it was painful to sit through that.
I'm honestly not very interested in writing a play-by-play recap of the speech, so consider this your non-recap recap. Hey, if Sarah Palin can give a non-endorsement endorsement, then I can do a non-recap recap, right? We've got lots of links, some videos, a generous serving of Marco Rubio (I know what y'all like)...

Walt Disney World, The Place Where Dreams Come True...Unless Obama is in Town
President Barack Obama is visiting us here in Orlando today, to give a speech "unveiling a strategy that will significantly boost tourism and travel" and "aid job growth." Apparently the strategy includes a series of executive orders that will not require Congressional approval.

Win a Free Dinner! Egobamania Contest!
State Representative Scott Plakon is having a very funny contest on his Facebook page: whoever guess the number of times that President Obama uses the words "I," "me," and "my" in his speech tonight will get free dinner for two with Plakon and his wife:
Enter your guess here. You have until 7 pm Eastern time!
And for the record, Plakon isn't the only one to notice our Teleprompter-Reader-in-Chief's tendency to focus speeches on himself. Check out this video (hat tip: Jason Hoyt):

Ed Schultz Calls Rubio "Stupid" - Seriously?!
Just in case there was any doubt that liberal and conservative brains are different, here comes MSNBC's Ed Schultz to remind you.
As you may have heard, my Senator, Marco Rubio, gave an incredibly moving speech at the Reagan Library about a week and a half ago. (If you haven't seen it yet, click here.) Normal people and journalists watched that speech and felt that it was an excellent followup to his maiden speech on the Senate Floor, and the speculation about Rubio being the GOP's Vice Presidential nominee became nearly deafening.
Well, Ed Schultz watched the same speech that you and I did, but had a much different reaction. Here's a two-part YouTube video where Schultz calls Rubio "stupid," "offensive," and "psycho talk", among other pleasantries:
