Lyrics: She's Got #WendyDavisLies

Some song lyrics inspired by Wendy Davis' latest little media snafu...

She's Got #WendyDavisLies
Set to the tune of "Bette Davis Eyes," by Kim Carnes

Her hair is Barbie gold
Her filibuster flies
Her heart is always cold
She’s got #WendyDavisLies
She’ll turn her sneakers on you
The media won’t question her twice
Fundraises in New York, oh
She’s got #WendyDavisLies

Liberals worried about cost of government regulations, LOL

We've spent the past few years watching conservatives argue that Obamacare would have disastrous effects on the health care system, in no small part because it imposes a massive regulatory burden on medical providers and insurance companies. Obama and his Democrat Congresscritters have discounted such concerns, characterizing this as a necessary sacrifice to provide health care to Americans.

We see a similar debate regarding environmental issues, where liberal environmentalists preach that the high cost of complying with an increasingly meddlesome and arbitrary EPA is a burden rightfully borne by those evil corporations.

Now, after the U.S. Supreme Court allowed HB2 (Texas' new law restricting abortions after five months unless the life of the mother was at risk and requiring certain safety standards at clinics) to take effect, the media are reporting that "at least 12 Texas abortion clinics have been closed."

Isn't that just fascinating? I mean, not a single word in HB2 required any clinics to close, so what's happening here?

The real meaning of "pro-life"

There's a interview at National Review by Kathryn Jean Lopez and Chuck Donovan, president of the Charlotte Lozier Institute that's a must read for any supporters of the pro-life cause. Read the whole thing, but I want to draw special attention to this quote:

EMILY's List Demands Apology from Vogue...Just Kidding!

Elle Woods would approve of
this look, don't you think?
This is cracking me up. Certain voices on the Left whipped themselves into a frenzy of outrage when RedState's Erick Erickson referred to Texas State Senator Wendy Davis as "Abortion Barbie."

Reality check: none of these people seemed to have any problem with similar insults being flung at Sarah Palin, and Davis is a very attractive, slender blonde who is known for wearing stylish clothes. I've heard more than one friend who's worked in the Capitol mention her seemingly endless collection of Louboutin shoes. Forgive me for thinking that this isn't really the Worst Insult Ever™.

Planned Parenthood resorts to blatant lies to fight #prolife bill; UPDATED with information about violent tactics from #prochoice protesters

The special session debate over Texas' abortion bill (HB2/SB1) continues to attract national attention, with both pro-life and pro-choice organizations weighing in. As expected, Planned Parenthood has been one of the ringleaders on the pro-abortion side.

Facebook ads supporting State Senator Wendy Davis and the pro-choice cause have been a constant presence in my Facebook feed since the evening of Davis' filibuster, and Planned Parenthood has been a sponsor of many of them.

A quick note regarding Todd Akin's consultants

Politico posted an article this morning discussing Rex Elsass and Strategy Group for Media, the consultants managing Todd Akin's hot mess of a Senate campaign in Missouri. There's one quote near the beginning, about how SGM's response to the backlash against Akin's ridiculous "legitimate rape" comments was to have the candidate film a TV ad apologizing:

Herman Cain: Positively Pro-Life

Positively Pro-Life
The past twenty-four hours were a whirlwind of controversy for Herman Cain, as statements  he made on Piers Morgan's CNN show appeared to suggest that he was pro-choice.

While that may not have been a great interview, and his words could have been chosen with more clarity, the accusation that Cain is pro-choice or a waffler on the issue is completely incorrect.

Here's an easy 1-2-3 on why I know that Herman Cain is pro-life:

Morning Coffee Reading for August 30, 2011

Here's your morning coffee reading for today:
Crowley Political Report | Why Mike McCalister should quit Florida's Senate race
Mike, Mike, Mike. What were you thinking?
Mike McCalister is a tough talking, retired Army colonel who dreams of winning the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. His little dream is turning into an embarrassing nightmare.
If you listen to McCalister, it is easy to walk away with the impression that this is one combat hardened, black-ops [savvy], kick-a** son-of-a gun.
Instead, the real McCalister is a lot like the high school football player who later in life talks as if he played in the pros...

Morning Coffee Reading for August 23, 2011

Here's your morning coffee reading for today:
  • I don't know what's worse: that Vice President Joe Biden might really say all these awful things without thinking, or believing that he does actually mean them. In case you missed it, while visiting China, Biden commented that he "fully understands" and was "not second-guessing" China's one-child policy. Hey, Joe, you are aware that the one-child policy really means forced abortions and sterilizations and other human rights abuses, right? Right? Sigh...anyway...here's two good commentaries on this:

Quick note about today's Florida Senate Debate

I'll have more to post later, but wanted to post this press release from the Adam Hasner Campaign. It's very telling that John Stemberger would post these statements on Twitter during the debate.

Hasner Campaign Comments On Florida Family Policy Council Debate

Orlando, FL - Hasner for Senate Communications Director Douglass Mayer issued the following statement in response to today's Florida Family Policy Council candidate debate:

"Every campaign is going to declare victory on behalf of their candidate. We don't have to - others who haven't endorsed in this race are doing it for us."
Adam Hasner clearly has the best grasp of the social issues especially stem cell research...strong, clear and passionate. Most dynamic of the panel.

- John Stemberger, President Of The Florida Family Policy Council, via Twitter
"George LeMieux's wholesale reinvention on values and economic issues will not stand up to scrutiny from voters and fact-checkers. While some candidates feel the need to exaggerate their resumes - or keep entire portions of it hidden from Florida voters - Adam has a consistent conservative record he's ready to take to Washington. That is why he won today's debate, and why he will win this election to take back our country."

------------------------------------

Stemberger also posted this about McCalister's answer on the pro-life issue: "[McCalister] consistently gets 10th Amend issues wrong and confused. Constitutional and policy positions two different animals."

I'll post more later when I can get in front of a computer again...including some great video from after the debate...stay tuned!

UPDATE: Here's the links to Stemberger's tweets referenced above if you are curious: here, here, and here.

Morning Coffee Reading for July 7, 2011

Here's your morning coffee reading for today:
  • Here's two great posts by Yid With Lid blogger Jeff Dunetz, analyzing several recent polls about how Jewish voters (even Democrats!) are increasingly disapproving of President Obama's job performance:

  • Earlier this week, the delightful Jenny Erikson, who I met at CPAC, invited me on her podcast to talk about why I'm a conservative, and my thoughts on the Casey Anthony trial. By the way, the tagline on her blog, "God. Family. Politics. Wine." might be one of the best ever.

  • A friend of mine who lives in Washington, D.C., Kevin Eder, is even more of a Twitter-holic than I am, if you can believe it. Kevin frequently will send out tweets posing hypothetical, taunting questions to liberal politicians and media outlets. Apparently he's also become Public Enemy Number One to the White House, as recent articles have noted that Obama's new "Director of Progressive Media," Jesse Lee, has directed a curious 15% of his tweets to responding to Kevin. The conservative blogosphere has taken notice:
I spoke to Kevin last night, and he had this to say about the whole kerfuffle: "I don't think Jesse Lee is a bully, but I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish with this effort. They're emboldening their opponents."

Shame on you, Charlie Crist, shame on you

Sad to report that Governor Crist vetoed HB 1143 earlier today.

His stated reasoning was that ultrasounds and similar measures "do not change hearts, which is the only true and effective way to ensure that a new life coming into the world is loved, cherished, and receives the care that is deserved."

    What a load of
    !!!!!!!

I believe that we are all God's creations and therefore all new life is already loved.  And as someone who was lucky enough to be adopted by my wonderful parents, and knowing other friends who are adopted or who have adopted children of their own, I can hardly put into words how wrong and very, very  hurtful the Governor's words are here.  There are so many loving families who want nothing more than to provide a loving home for an "unwanted" child, and who would willingly pay for the birth mother's medical bills and provide her with care, love, and support.

We all saw this coming.  Charlie's been desperately chasing after the polls like a puppy after a tennis ball, and removed all pro-life messages from his website earlier this week.  Still, seeing it in print is especially shocking, and the hurtful way he chose to phrase it, just saddens me.

    Charlie Crist flakes out again

    Pathetic, just pathetic.

Now that our Oompa Loompa Governor no longer has to pretend to be a Republican, the swing to his true liberal beliefs has begun.  See the below post from Michelle Malkin about Charlie scrubbing pro-life statements from his website:

Word on the street is that Charlie is most likely going to veto HB1143, and that either way he's going to announce some sort of decision by the end of the week.  If you support this bill, please contact the Governor IMMEDIATELY at 850-488-7146 (leave a message or call first thing in the morning) or Charlie.Crist@myflorida.com

    Emotional torture? Good.

After my post earlier on DADT, I just figured I'd make today "Sarah Blogs About Controversial Stuff and Sees How Many People She Can Tick Off At Once" day...anyway...watch out, here's some very strongly pro-life opinions coming your way...

Many of the opponents to the HB 1143, the bill that prohibits taxpayer funding of abortions and requires pregnant women to have an ultrasound before having an abortion, argue that requiring an ultrasound is wrong because it's "emotional torture" for the women.

I came across an article on the HotAir Green Room that makes some good points on this issue:
