Looks like Jim DeMint and I have something in common

He's got his eye on us.
...neither one of us should try traveling in Russia any time soon.

Late Wednesday evening, I posted a snarky little tweet in response to Vladimir Putin's New York Times op-ed...

The only thing better than an op-ed by Marco Rubio...

...is an op-ed by Marco Rubio, and also Jim DeMint, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ron Johnson.

The five senators cooperated to write an op-ed published in POLITICO earlier today, advocating for a balanced budget:

News about DeMint's endorsement "a fabrication"

Heh. Looks like Romney's consultants were caught being too clever by half:

Roll Call is running a story that Jim DeMint may endorse Mitt Romney. Here’s what you need to know about it.
A number of DeMint past and present consultants in South Carolina work for Mitt Romney. I’m not sure the reporter knew just how heavily he was being spun, but he was.
The story is mostly wishful thinking by Romney consultants in South Carolina who have ties to DeMint. If you need further proof the story is bogus, consider DeMint’s own office calling the story “a fabrication”...

Of course he endorsed LeMieux!

File this under "Birds of a Feather:" George LeMieux finally got an endorsement, and he sure is proud of it.

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour announced his support for LeMaestro's candidacy this week, and Team LeMieux wasted no time putting together some cute little graphics for his website and GoogleAds, touting the endorsement:

Helpful hint: "servedthe" isn't a word. I think y'all missed a space.
Wow. "George is a solid conservative." That sounds great...except for the fact that Governor Barbour seems to have left the reservation in recent years, and simply isn't an accurate judge of what a real conservative looks like.

Case in point: check out this article from The Hill just two weeks ago:
The Hill's Blog Briefing Room | Haley Barbour criticizes DeMint for not supporting Boehner
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) criticized the Tea Party wing of the GOP on Tuesday for failing to get behind Republican leadership on a deficit plan.

Morning Coffee Reading for May 11, 2011

Here's your morning coffee reading (and a video) for today:

Some great tips for getting more clicks and "Likes" on your Facebook page: (hat tip: Bettina Inclan)
Mashable | 10 Proven Strategies for Greater Likability on Facebook
Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) lays down the law for GOP candidate, stating unequivocally that he will not support any presidential hopeful who isn't tough on budget issues:
"I couldn't support a presidential candidate who did not say we have to have a balanced budget amendment pass before we support [raising the debt ceiling]," DeMint said. "I think we should go to the mat with Obama. I don't think there should be any compromise on that, and if Obama wants to be closing part of the government next fall because he's unwilling to balance the budget, I think we can win that argument."
(P.S. You know who else supports a balanced budget amendment? Adam Hasner, that's who. Oh. Yeah.)

Here's another Washington Examiner article about hearings held by Congressmen Cliff Stearns (R-FL) and Darrell Issa (R-CA) regarding the Obama Administration's lack of transparency:

Also, if you're not already following Congressman Issa on Twitter (@DarrellIssa), you really should. Besides posting lots of great updates about his work as "chief watchdog" for the House GOP, his profile picture (or "avi," in standard Twitter parlance) is just great:

Homefront Hugs USA is a unique charity that supports our military. They are collecting Legos, which will be used both as a way for our troops in Afghanistan to bond with local children, and also to assist with rehabilitation for injured veterans. The little plastic blocks are excellent practice for fine motor skills and reasoning abilities that can be affected by head or other nerve injuries. Here's a blog post about the charity and all the info you need to participate:

Looks like Donald Trump's flirtation with running for President may be coming to an end. Recent polls show his support taking a nose dive. Personally, my opinion is that the man can't even manage his hair competently, so I definitely don't want him having access to our nuclear codes!
Yid With Lid Blog | Trump's Done: Can We Concentrate on REAL Candidates Now?
A complete disaster. Also, his hair is a mess.
Our wonderful Senator Marco Rubio is teaming up with Senators Pat Toomey, Jim DeMint, Mike Lee and others to offer a proposal that would balance the federal budget within ten years. Jennifer "Cubachi" has an excellent write-up about the proposal, including a video of Rubio at a press conference at her blog, here:

Sayfie Review editor Justin Sayfie interviewed Governor Rick Scott on a variety of topics, including the date of Florida's presidential primary, the GOP presidential candidates, his thoughts on this year's legislative session, Donald Trump (yes, really), and his decision making process regarding appointments:

Catching up on my trip to Washington, D.C.

Hello everyone...sorry I haven't posted anything in awhile.  My trip to Washington, D.C. was absolutely fantastic until the very end when I ended up with a wretchedly evil cold.  I managed to make it through security without getting groped, irradiated, photographed naked or otherwise assaulted by TSA, but thought my ears were going to explode from the air pressure changes during the flight.  Not fun.  Anyway, I'm finally feeling better now - just in time for Thanksgiving with the family, hooray! - so I thought I'd share some of my photos and adventures in our nation's capital last week...

(Long post with pictures and video...after the "read more" link...)

Watch out, DC, here I come!

The very nice people at Americans for Prosperity are sponsoring a trip for several of us from Florida to go to a "Stop the Lame Duck" rally on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on Monday, as part of their "November Speaks" initiative.   Senator Jim DeMint, and Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, and Congressman Mike Pence will be joining us.

If you're in the D.C. area, please try and join us.  Here's the flier for the rally:
November Speaks Flier

For those of you who can't join us, you can still participate.  Check out the November Speaks website and you can join us in a "virtual march" on the Capitol, and even make a rally sign for the virtual march (AFP is going to download the messages from all the online signs and send them to Congress).

...and of course, follow me on twitter (@rumpfshaker) and watch this blog for all of my updates.
