Th...I am the daughter of a real Cuban exile Sarah. There is a tremendous difference between 1956 Cuba and Early 60's Cuba when most exiles (mainly children) were hastily ushered out of the country by the Catholic Diocese. My father is a Pedro Pan, so in essence....when I first read the WAPO piece, I took a little offense to the change in Rubio's accounting and I have lost respect for him. I am a Conservative writer that happens to also be a Cuban American and I have traveled to many Tea Parties and campaign events to hear Mr. Rubio speak. It is very CLEAR the picture that Marco Rubio was trying to portray especially to the likely voters in South Miami. I am also curious - why his official website remained with this wording..."In 1971, Marco was born in Miami to Cuban-born parents who came to America following Fidel Castro's takeover." - ??? Curious, isn't it? (Rubio.senate.gov) Now - I am finding it to be very disheartening that my fellow Republican and Conservative writers may be operating so bias when it comes to one of their own. I noticed you poked fun at the "birthers"?? I'm not sure to what extent you carry your research...but, there is something significant that you are missing. Rubio's parents did not obtain naturalization util 20 years after entering the country...1976, and well AFTER Mr. Rubio's birth. I find it peculiar how little folks care to know about our constitution. Rubio is not a natural born citizen. I would employ you to take a look at the many Supreme Court cases that clarified and defined "natural born". Geez one off the top of my head is **Minor v. Happersett 88 U.S. 162 (1875) Back to the WAPO piece...Everyone decried it and declared it slanderous which is interesting. What we are missing here - is the fact that the MEDIA FAILED again. They will take the time to probe Rubio's past, Lynne Slaky of WAPO had no problem getting a hold of Rubio's parents Social security numbers but, they still to this day fail to launch valid vetting of Mr. Obama. That is a real problem. BTW - the WAPO piece was spearheaded by the article that came out in the St. Pete Times last week - What is good for the goose, is not good for the gander?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169420095530503988.post-45105740394508699222011-10-21T16:32:03.510-05:002011-10-21T16:32:03.510-05:00Thanks, Val!

Great post!
As for your commenter critici...Sarah,

Great post!

As for your commenter criticizing Senator Rubio, unless he's a member of the Cuban American and exile community, its really not his place to pontificate on what is offensive to us. Rubio's election win is clear and absolute proof that his community, the Cuban-American exile community, supports him wholeheartedly.

As an aside, Wikipedia is by no means an unbiased source for Cuba related information. For years we have struggled against their attempts at revising Cuba's history to suit their left leaning agenda.

Babalu has a couple posts up on the WaPo Rubio issue:

http://babalublog.com/2011/10/washington-post-takes-shot-at-senator-marco-rubio-misses-completely/

http://babalublog.com/2011/10/the-only-ethnic-group-in-america-that-its-politically-correct-to-attack/

and here at PJM:

http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/team-obama-must-stop-rubio/Val Prietohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15857729823069869008noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169420095530503988.post-16033207781079119722011-10-21T11:54:27.274-05:002011-10-21T11:54:27.274-05:00Actually, NO Rubio did not claim they fled after c...Actually, NO Rubio did not claim they fled after castro. Marco Rubio went on the record saying that his parents fled Cuba after Castro came into power. We now know this is a complete falsehood. You did a fine job using Cuban history going back to 1953 to effectively muddy the water, but it doesn't change the fact that Rubio embellished his record. This conduct is truly offensive to any true exiles who actually fled from Castro's regime.

Marco Rubio needs to man up, admit that he was wrong, and move on.Marco needs to man uphttp://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/marco-rubios-compelling-family-story-embellishes-facts-documents-show/2011/10/20/gIQAaVHD1L_story.htmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1169420095530503988.post-57780635204271736612011-10-21T10:31:25.836-05:002011-10-21T10:31:25.836-05:00GREAT reporting, once again!
